ADSL service provides high speeds to subscribers compared to the traditional modem, as it uses a wide band of frequencies that provides internet connection with speeds that are about 30-40% higher than the connection using the traditional telephone modem.


It is worth noting that connecting to the Internet using ADSL technology is called an always-on technology, since the fees charged for investing the service are not related to the time the user spends online and is not related to the amount of data transmitted to and from the network; The computer can remain always connected to the Internet without the user incurring any additional fees other than those agreed monthly with the service provider.

How does ADSL technology work?


The mechanism of ADSL technology is by uploading the Internet signal to the copper lines designated to deliver terrestrial communications service to the subscribers’ homes, and then the data transmission processes of the Internet and voice signals for phone calls take place on the same line, but after its frequencies are divided into a group of packets .


This idea came based on the need to invest in telephone copper lines that only invest a small part of the audio signals. ADSL service comes and exploits these extra spaces and divides the excess frequency into three sections; The first section, whose frequency ranges between 300 - 3400 Hz, is designated for telephone calls and is called POT. It is preferred over the other parts of the copper wire by using special devices that ensure that this part continues to function smoothly and efficiently even in cases where the ADSL connection is out of service for any reason.


The other two sections of the bandwidth in the copper wire are responsible for ADSL traffic, and the first of them is responsible for uploads; That is, in which the user uploads data to the network, and the other section is responsible for transferring data from the network to the user, or what is called the download.


We repeat here that the speed of the download portion is much higher than the speed of the download portion, which explains why ADSL technology is called asymmetric; This makes it a better choice for users who use network resources more than they need to upload information to.
